“My choice for the first ever sports movie moment in Will's Fifth Quarter Special history is called Glory Road. Glory Road is about a high school girls basketball coach Don Haskins going to coach a commuter school Texas Western (UTEP) and bring the team its own identity during the Civil Rights Movement . The scene I picked is the Pep talk Coach Haskins gives his team in the championship game against Adolph Rupp's Kentucky Wildcats . Coach Haskins tells his team with two minutes left and the lead, ' They have been here before and they aren't gonna give it to us so we gotta go out there and we gotta take it'. The Texas Western Miners go out after that and pull off the greatest upset in sports history. This scene compares to Illinois State Men's and women's basketball and how each team is finding an identity as Illinois State athletics feature good team first played sports . This scene from Glory Road really connects to these two Illinois State teams." - host Will Farlow , Episode 1 (Pilot)

“ My movie moment choice is Remember the Titans and its a good sports movie and a good life movie as well. The real life NFL Team the Tennessee Titans actually recreated the famous walkout of the T.C. Williams team in Remember the Titans. The scene where Coach Boone takes the Team to training camp and brings them together as a team I think compares to Chicago Bears Head Coach Matt Nagy and how he has brought the team together in his first season in 2018 with the Bears. If you haven't seen this movie Remember the Titans you should definitely go watch it” - co-host Alex Dolinar , Episode 23 one year anniversary edition

"As much as I work in and enjoy football, baseball has always been my first love as I grew up playing and watching it which goes with my sports movie moment choice. My movie moment choice is The Natural with the scene where Roy Hobbs ,whose near the end of his career, comes in to pinch hit and hits a grand home run that busts the lights. Its that classic baseball home run good feel moment as you see the sparks flying from the broken lights. This scene compares to a special moment I remember as a big Dodger fan and its the home run by Kurt Gibson off Dennis Eckersly in Game one of the 1988 World Series that helped the Dodgers win that year. The fact that this great MLB moment in 1988 happened chronologically four years after this movie came out makes this a great, special sports movie moment choice." - guest appearance by NFL Network's Marcas Grant, Episode 21 |
“ My sports movie moment choice is a good feel baseball movie and it's Pride of the Yankees. The scene of the movie I picked shows classic baseball life back then as it was more team oriented with players . It shows how classic baseball in the days of Lou Gehrig differs from today's more agent and individual based form of baseball today. Back then players didn't have cell phones , and they rode trains to games together as a team. This is definitely a good sports movie to check out” - co-host Brian Farlow , Episode 42 two year anniversary edition

My sports movie moment choice is 'The Game Plan' and its with Dwayne the Rock Johnson playing QB Joe Kingman of the Boston Rebels. Kingman is a QB of the Boston Rebels playing at a stadium that's real life Gillette Stadium , and he is trying to lead his team that's still hoping to win a championship. This scene compares to the Chicago Bears who soon play the New England Patriots and Chicago is still working toward success on the football field”

“ My sports movie moment choice fits well with every team we talked about in this episode and its from one of my favorite movies Rocky 3. Rocky 3 features Rocky ans how he fights adversity after losing to Clubber Lang and with the help of his former opponent now friend Apollo Creed to train him for a rematch against Clubber Lang for the title. The scene I picked is interesting and its Rocky's wife Adrian asking him why hes been training not too hard , and Rocky says I'm afraid -for the first time in my life I'm afraid” . After this argument with his wife Rocky goes onto win back the heavyweight title from Clubber Lang. This scene compares with how the teams we covered today like the Illinois State Redbirds, Chicago Bears, Bulls, and Eagles are all fighting through obstacles and adversity to achieve success. This movie and series as a whole is a good inspiring one to check out!”- host Will Farlow, Episode 6
